Cycling
The Sikh Union Cycling Club was formed following the interest gained from the Olympic Games in London 2012, It was a great way to get fit and a chance for all age groups to do an activity within a group format rather than riding individually.
We started off with small 10 mile rides to develop fitness and to learn about road safety as a cyclist, and then gradually the distances become longer, and now up to 50 plus miles, regularly stopping at a good coffee shops for refreshments and the odd slice of cake!
As a charity, the cycling club then started to take part in various challenges to keep the motivation going every year, and raise money for worthy causes, some of which are listed below. So far, we have raised in the region of £12,000 for the various causes.
- The India Bike Challenge – 380km ride from Agra to Jaipur in 5 days.
- The Snowdonia Challenge – 40 Mile bike ride, Hike Mount Snowdonia, and Canoe 1 mile circuit around a Lake.
- Birmingham to London Bike Ride – 130 miles
- Various local 30-50 mile Bike Challenges.
As a club we go riding on Sunday mornings throughout the year, more so in the summer months rather than winter.
