Vaisakhi Sports Day

The Sikh Union Vaisakhi Sports Day is held annually at the War Memorial Park in Coventry. The sports day is supported by Coventry City Council and has now become an annual fixture in the City’s social calendar.

The free event has grown from humble beginnings when it was held in a temple in Coventry, and it went on to be staged at a city sports centre before finally moving to the War Memorial Park, where it has been held since 1996. The Vaisakhi Sports Day attracts people from all across the Midlands, and upto 10,000 attendees can be expected.

After months of planning, the day normally starts at around 9.00 am and includes various sports events such as football, volleyball, rounders, kabaddi, a tug of war and of course several athletics events for all ages.

To go with the sports activities, there are normally several stalls selling food and drink, books, arts and crafts, music and yoga workshops, etc., and also a fun fair.

Organised and managed by Sikh Union volunteers, the day normally ends at around 6.00 pm, when the clear up starts
